What Can the Earth Teach Us ABout Love?
We invite you to participate in an international art show that will explore the question, What Can The Earth Teach Us About Love?
Michael Jones from Pianoscapes and Leading Artfully states it so beautifully,"ecological change is an artistic process - an unfolding in which the present moment holds within itself the seed of potential for what will come next."
We are looking at this time in history as fertile ground for reflecting on resilience and adaptability in a rapidly changing world.
The Earth Charter is one area of focus for the show. We will have grade school children draw a mural interpreting key areas of the Preamble. One beautiful sentence is "To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one earth community with a common destiny." We will paint the earth on the wall mirroring the mural with the Preamble, Earth, Our Home, and The Way Forward. Blank spaces will be left for viewers of the show to add their comments.
Another element that will be present is a Turtle Mandala with sacred geometry to depict Turtle Island, our Mother Earth. This will be created by Female Elders from the Pacific Northwest.
When speaking with your class about getting involved, the following points may be helpful as you and the students design your project to be included in What Can The Earth Teach Us About Love?
1. Understand - Imagine - Create Pay attention to the area that the students are passionate about, whether it is the environment, animals, the water systems, food systems, or _____________.
2. Explore deep collective learning by learning to see and feel. For ex. a bee pollinating a flower, or the majesty of a whale breaching in the ocean - and what about the water systems? What is the new awareness emerging that expands our perception of the earth and love?
3. Stand Open - to create art, poetry, or other forms that call to you and the students.
4. Your art, in any form, will be nutrients for the whole, like a garden of hope.
5. Let yourself be Bold with New Possibilities, Imagination, Innovation, and New Beginnings.
